R&B icon D'Angelo has breathed his last at the age of 51, the singer's family confirmed his death in a hearbreaking statement.
The mucision lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. This is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.
D'Angelo rose to fame with his 1995 debut album "Brown Sugar" and won four Grammy Awards, including best R&B album for "Voodoo" and "Black Messiah.
The aritist's his legacy will be remembered through his music, with many mucisions and fans already paying tribute to the late artist.
What is Pancreatic cancer?
Pancreatic cancer reportedly refers to the carcinoma arising from the pancreatic duct cells, pancreatic ductal carcinoma.
According to reports, the five-year survival rate in the US ranges from 5% to 15%. The overall survival rate is only 6%.
D'Angelo's Family's statement
R&B artist's family announced his death in a statement to Variety, confirming: “The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life…After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer."
They continued: "We are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today, October 14th, 2025.
"We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”
Children
The singer is survived by two sons and a daughter. The mother of his first son, singer Angie Stone, passed away earlier this year in a tragic car accident.
Achievements
The singer won four Grammy Awards, including best R&B album for "Voodoo" in 2001 and "Black Messiah" in 2016, as well as best R&B song for "Really Love" and best male R&B vocal performance for "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," according to reportes.
