‘John Candy’ director Colin Hanks makes bold statement about ‘white men’
Tom Hanks’ son shares heartbreaking admission about ‘John Candy: I Like Me’ documentary
Tom Hanks’ son Colin has recently made bold statement about white men in 40s during screening of Prime Video documentary John Candy: I Like Me last week.
The Nuremberg actor believed that all “white men in their 40s” should be “doing therapy”.
Colin revealed that the documentary Ryan Reynolds produced and he directed took a lot of his time as he researched into late comedian’s life.
At the time, he recalled reconnecting with John’s two children, who also serve as co-producers of the documentary, along with John's wife, Rosemary Margaret Hobor.
“Once I found out that John's father had died when he was 5, I said, ‘Okay, that's something that never leaves you. That's something that he wrestled with for his entire life,” recalled the 47-year-old director.
Colin pointed out, “I connected with Chris, he had mentioned that [John] had just started to do that therapeutic work that a lot of people do in their 40s, specifically white men in their 40s — they should all be doing therapy.”
Therefore, the Dexter actor mentioned that once he discovered he had started to do that work and was really starting, that got him going.
Colin also shared that he discussed the coping mechanisms late John learned as a kid that kept him alive, that made him who he was?
The director reflected that John’s journey of painful life experience is “part of what we're celebrating” in the documentary.
“That outgoing, genuine, gregarious, caring individual — that's all coping,” he noted.
"That's how he was raised,” added Colin.
Meanwhile, the movie-maker opened up that John’s story is really interesting.
“I had exchanges with John… I definitely wanted to celebrate his career and I wanted to celebrate the person that he was,” added the actor and director.
