'Riverdale' creators confirm zombie horror spinoff 'Afterlife with Archie'
KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, and Cole Sprouse's return is currently unconfirmed
Archie and the gang are back from the dead in a new zombie-apocalypse-themed Riverdale spinoff.
Disney+ is developing Afterlife With Archie, a spooky new spinoff of Riverdale that reimagines the small town in a much, much darker light, as reported by Deadline.
The series, based on Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla’s hit comic books, has received a script-to-series commitment. It’s set to follow Archie as he battles a wave of supernatural threats, with the official logline teasing an “apocalyptic, nightmare-fuelled hellscape overrun with flesh-eating zombies.”
Aguirre-Sacasa, who also serves as chief creative officer of Archie Comics, will write and executive produce the project. He’ll be joined by longtime collaborators Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Jon Goldwater, and Jimmy Gibbons, reuniting the creative team behind Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
While Riverdale launched the careers of KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, and Charles Melton, it remains unclear if any of them will reprise their roles in the new series.
And Archie fever isn’t slowing down. In addition to the spinoff, a live-action Archie Comics movie from Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and writer Tom King is also in the works.
