Tropical Storm Humberto forms in Atlantic as Hurricane Gabrielle threatens Azores

The weather forecasters have announced key developments as Tropical Storm Humberto formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday while Hurricane Gabrielle was racing across the ocean toward the Azores Islands.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning for the volcanic island group, which could experience dangerous conditions from Gabrielle today.

However, the Category 2 storm is forecast to weaken but could cause significant coastal flooding in the island chain and destructive waves.

The meteorologists predicted that Gabrielle may bring up to 5 inches (13 centimeters) of rain across the central and western Azores from Thursday to Friday.

Hurricane Narda was centered about 560 miles (900 kilometers) off the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

It has been observed that Hurricane Narda was moving west at 10mph(16kph), and no coastal watches or warnings were in effect.

Meanwhile, swells generated by Narda could bring rip currents to some parts of coastal Mexico.

Initially, the hurricane was expected to weaken but strengthen on September 25, and 26.

The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) is continuously monitoring as Humberto progresses.

It is also monitoring a second area of potential development, located closer to Puerto Rico, which has an approximately 80% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next week.
