Adolescence star Owen Cooper won a major accolade for his breakout role at the National TV Awards ahead of the Emmy Awards on Sunday.
Cooper's critically acclaimed Netflix series Adolescence, took home two major awards with the lead actor bagging the Best Drama Performance and Best New Drama.
The 15-year-old star was not in attendance as he is in USA preparing for the Emmys, however his co-star Amari Bacchus accepted the award on his behalf.
He also shared a pre-recorded video message from Cooper on his phone, where the actor expressed his gratitude to his co-stars, family and fans.
"Never could I have believed that this show, Adolescence, would change my life in the way that it has," he said. "It's the fact that the viewers who voted for this, it just shows what a powerful, impactful show that we all got to make."
Cooper's win at NTA boost his chances at the Emmy Awards, where he could set a record with a with a win for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
If he wins, he will be the youngest male actor in 76-year history of Emmys to win the award. The current record holder for youngest male is Scott Jacoby, who bagged the Best Supporting Actor at 16 in 1973 for drama That Certain Summer.
Cooper will be up against, Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story), Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard for (Presumed Innocent), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex) and Ashley Walters (Adolescence).
Adolescence is also nominated in the Best Limited or Anthology Series alongside Black Mirror, Dying for Sex, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and The Penguin.
