Kerry Katona admits she wanted to end life after TV disaster
Kerry Katona calls infamous interview the biggest car crash ever
Kerry Katona recently opened up about the darkest time of her life, admitting she felt suicidal after her infamous interview on This Morning in 2008.
The former Atomic Kitten star said she “wanted to kill myself” following the highly publicised TV appearance, which she now brands “the number one car crash interview ever.”
The star was accused of being drunk at the time because her words were slurred, as she later explained that it was caused by medication for her bipolar disorder, not alcohol.
Speaking on Paul C. Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, she said the backlash left her shaken.
“ITV was my home. I loved it. It was like stability. But in that moment was sheer panic. I think it’s still to this day, the number one car crash interview ever of all time until Prince Andrew did his. It’s like cheers for that love, you knocked me off the spot," Kerry explained.
She recalled feeling hated as the media storm grew. “I wanted to kill myself as I drove up to the house, my neighbors hated me.
There were camera crews and paparazzi. And I kept thinking, I don’t know what I’ve done wrong. I was the pinnacle of that kind of era of knockdown.”
During the interview, Kerry felt “belittled” as Phillip Schofield questioned her slurred speech and asked if she was “OK.” At the time, she insisted she was fine and explained it was the result of her medication.
Although the backlash nearly destroyed her, Kerry credited her children for keeping her alive and she admitted her struggles often overshadowed her career, but speaking out now has allowed her to take back control of her story.
