Anna Wintour shares true feelings about inspiring 'Devil Wears Prada'
Meryl Streep's character Miranda Priestly is famously based on former the 'Vogue' editor-in-chief
Anna Wintour is finally sharing her unfiltered take on The Devil Wears Prada.
The 75-year-old fashion icon broke her silence on the 2006 film during the September 9 episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast. Specifically, she opened up about being the inspiration behind the iconic character of Miranda Priestly.
Surprisingly, Wintour admitted she never felt slighted by Streep’s icy portrayal of fictional editor.
“Well, I went to the premiere wearing Prada,” Wintour recalled. “Completely having no idea what the film was going to be about.”
She revealed that people in fashion feared the movie would cast her in “some kind of difficult light.” But instead of being offended, Wintour said she walked away amused.
“It was Meryl Streep, which — fantastic,” she explained. “And then I went to see the film, and I found it highly enjoyable and very funny.”
Wintour added that after many conversations with a friend, she ultimately decided the movie landed exactly where it should.
“I think, listen, it had a lot of humour to it. It had a lot of wit… And I, in the end, I thought it was a fair shot,” she said.
The comments come just months after Wintour stepped down as editor-in-chief of Vogue after 36 years. She will remain at Condé Nast as global chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director.
