James Gunn teases Superman vs. Lex Luthor in ‘Man of Tomorrow’ announcement
James Gunn sparks online buzz with 'Superman: Man of Tomorrow' announcement
James Gunn recently took the internet by storm after unveiling the release date of his upcoming project, Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
The 59-year-old filmmaker, known for his work in the superhero genre, shared new details about his much-anticipated film.
On Wednesday, September 3, the DC Studios co-CEO shared a major update on X, formerly Twitter.
He penned, “Man of Tomorrow. In theatres July 9, 2027.”
The release date announcement was accompanied by an illustration of Superman alongside Lex Luthor, who was donning his iconic green and purple armored suit.
This announcement also hinted at an intense face-off between Superman and Luthor in Gunn’s new DC Universe.
The update follows Superman’s successful theatrical run at the box office, which earned $611 million worldwide.
For the unversed, the sci-fi action film turned out to be the highest-grossing superhero project of 2025.
Earlier in July, Gunn revealed that the next Superman film would not be a follow-up to the first one.
In an exclusive conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn said, “What I’m working on is in some way… mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily.”
Superman, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and more, was released on Thursday, July 10.
