Austin Butler has set record straight on whether he would join the James Bond franchise as the titular character.
The 34-year-old actor sparked rumours because the director working on the next instalment of the series is Denis Villeneuve, with whom Butler has worked with on Dune.
The Elvis star shared that he would “love” to work with the filmmaker again but he is not the best candidate for the spy movies.
When asked about the upcoming movie, Butler said told the Hits Radio Breakfast Show, "I love that man but no calls as far as James Bond goes but I don't think that would be a good idea [for me to play Bond], I'm an American, I can do an accent but that would be kind of sacrilegious."
However, the Caught Stealing star would not reject any other role in the movie, "Villain? That would be alright! I'd do that," he said.
While it remains unclear who will be starred in the next instalment, fans had been eyeing Glen Powell for the role, but he too claimed he wasn’t the right choice.
“I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond,” Powell told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week.
Powell continued, “My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond. Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”
