'Materialists' director begins work on the sequel of Julia Roberts 'old' classic film

Julia Robert’s classic romantic comedy film finally gets a sequel update 28 years after its release.
Academy Award winning screenwriter Celine Song has started working on the new film with Sony Picture backing the project as producers.
Robert’s 1997 classic My Best Friend’s Wedding is getting a sequel with Song writing its screenplay.
According to Collider, the new entry is now on board, but the project is still in the “very early development.”
The popular rom com follows the story of a woman who realizes she is love with her best friend, who recently got engaged and hence, she makes efforts to dismantle his wedding.
Besides Julia, the movie also features Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett and Carrie Preston.
On the other hand, Celine just released her new romantic comedy film named Materialists starring Pedro Pascal, Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans.
The film revolves around a young New York based matchmaker, who is finding difficulty in finding the perfect match for herself and ends up getting trapped in a love triangle.
Song’s film was well received as it received 79% score by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, it grossed over $52 million globally.
