Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock reunite for 'Practical Magic' sequel

The highly anticipated sequel to the 1998 film Practical Magic is finally underway, and fans are thrilled to see Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their roles as the Owens sisters.

To celebrate their first day on set, Kidman shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, showcasing the two actresses shooting for the film.

"The witches are back. Owens sisters' first day on set! #PracticalMagic," Kidman wrote in the caption, while Bullock can be heard saying, "Turns out, we have a lot of work to do."

Kidman and Bullock first starred as Sally and Gillian Owens, two sister witches plagued by a family curse, in the original film.

The sequel, Practical Magic 2, will be directed by Susanne Bier, who has previously worked with both actresses on Bird Box and The Perfect Couple. Kidman described the collaboration as "the perfect triangle" due to Bier's past work with both actresses.

"Sandy's worked with her, too, so the two of us were like, well, this is the perfect triangle because we all know each other so well and so to be able to work together on something that is fun and witchy," Kidman explained.

The film will feature Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing reprising their roles as the Owens aunts, who raise the sisters after their parents pass away. New additions to the cast include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod.

However, Evan Rachel Wood, who played Bullock's character's daughter in the first film, revealed that she was not asked to return for the sequel.

"I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters," Wood wrote on her Instagram Stories.

The sequel's script was co-written by Akiva Goldman, who worked on the original film, and Georgia Pritchett. Bullock and Kidman will also serve as producers, alongside Denise Di Novi, who produced the original Practical Magic.

Practical Magic 2 is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026. Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the beloved Owens sisters and the magic that comes with them.
