Christopher Nolan made history with an unprecedented move ahead of his much-awaited film The Odyssey.
The star-studded production starring Matt Demon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Zendaya, has dropped tickets in advance for sale exactly a year to the day of film's official release.
This is the first time in history of cinema that any tickets have gone on sale a year before a movie's release.
Not only this, with previous success of Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, Nolan also is the first director in history to make the whole Greek epic in Imax.
Nolan approached Imax about upgrading its cameras, including resolving issues with processing the cameras' 70 mm film stock and the weight of the equipment.
Imax CEO Rich Gelfond while speaking at the company's annual press lunch earlier at the Cannes Film Festival, recalled, "Chris called me up and said, 'If you can figure out how to solve the problems, I will make [Odyssey] 100 percent in Imax.' And that’s what we’re doing."
"He forced us to rethink that side of our business, our film recorders, our film cameras," he added.
Hence, the new film cameras are reserved for Nolan for now, but after he wraps The Odyssey, Imax will begin renting them out to other directors.
The classic story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca (Damon) as he undertakes a long and perilous journey home to his wife Penelope (Hathaway) following the Trojan War.
The first teaser-trailer for Nolan’s film debuted exclusively in theatres during Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth, which premiered on July 4.
The Odyssey is set to release on July 17, 2026.
