James Gunn knew who to cast as 'Superman' besides David Corenswet
'Superman' 2025 also features Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult
DC CEO James Gun, who will be helming the new Superman film, has revealed who he had in mind for the titular role apart from David Corenswet.
The 58-year-old filmmaker was sure on one thing that he wouldn’t make the movie until he found the perfect actor to play it.
James wanted someone who could carry the “complex mix of drama, comedy and action”, and he found all those qualities in the 31-year-old actor.
He told GQ, “The easy part is, he looks like Superman. But the fact that David is a theatre kid that’s so athletic is even weirder.”
But the filmmaker also knew who to cast if David would have refused to play the role.
The second name in Gunn’s head was of, Chris Pratt.
He explained, “I don’t know if anybody I’ve worked with before would’ve been able to do this stuff, besides maybe Chris Pratt.”
“I said from the beginning, ‘If I don’t find Superman, I’m not going to do this movie.’ Because I knew that this was dependent on the guy that’s playing Superman.”
The 2025 action sci-fi is coming out in theatres on July 11.
