KiKi Layne talks about training for ‘Old Guard 2’ and being ready for third movie
KiKi Layne seems to much into the franchise. With The Old Guard 2 just days away from hitting Netflix, KiKi Layne is already hoping fans will make a third movie happen.
The actress, who returns as Nile in the action-packed sequel, isn’t shy about her excitement for more. “I pray for it,” Layne said. “I’m like, ‘Please, everybody watch this movie. Come on, let’s get this greenlit.’ I would love to do it again.”
Directed by Victoria Mahoney, The Old Guard 2 brings back the immortal warriors, played by Charlize Theron, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and newcomer Henry Golding, to face their toughest challenge yet.
This time, they’re up against two of their own, Discord, played by Uma Thurman, and Quynh, played by Veronica Ngô, as they try to stop them from destroying humanity.
Reflecting on the physical demands of the sequel, Layne admitted that getting back into shape took some work.
“When it was greenlit, I had met my man and we were eating good so I had to make some adjustments to get ready for number two,” she shared with Variety.
Still, Layne sees the intense training as a core part of embodying Nile’s strength and story.
She said that she really enjoys pushing herself "physically" to "honour who Nile"
"At the same time, it’s a really nice feeling when your body’s changing and you’re feeling stronger. I’m like, ‘Oh, I might be able to knock somebody out now.,’” she added.
