The highly anticipated trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, has leaked online despite the studio's efforts to keep it under wraps.
Universal Pictures had planned to debut the trailer in front of the film Jurassic Park Rebirth in theaters, but smartphone-wielding moviegoers managed to capture and share the footage on social media.
Nolan is known for preferring his trailers to be a cinematic experience, and the first teaser trailer for his Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer also debuted exclusively in theaters.
However, the leak has allowed fans to get a glimpse of the film's epic scope and star-studded cast, including Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Mia Goth.
The leaked trailer opens with shots of a dark ocean and a voiceover that sets the tone for the film. "Darkness. Zeus' law smashed to pieces. I'm without a king since my master died. He knew it was an unwinnable war. And then, somehow, he won it."
The trailer then cuts to a scene with Tom Holland's character, Telemachus, searching for his father, Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.
The Odyssey is a mythic action epic that follows the king of Ithaca as he undertakes a perilous journey home after the Trojan War. The film has a budget of $250 million, making it the most expensive film of Nolan's career. It will be shot entirely using Imax cameras, a first for a film of this scope.
The Odyssey is set to be released on July 17, 2026, and fans are eagerly anticipating the film's premiere. With Nolan's track record of success and the film's epic scope and star-studded cast, The Odyssey is expected to be a major draw at the box office.
