Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire craft most powerful 'Spider-Man' scene
Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield pitch ideas for 'No Way Home' after fans derailed the original plan
Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire weren’t just mere additions to the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home but helped reshape one of the film’s most powerful scenes.
Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers revealed that both of the former franchise leads "had great ideas that really elevated everything" in terms of their evolving individual Spider-Man characters.
In the third Tom Holland starring film, the 29-year-old’s Peter Parker crossed paths with Tobey, 50, and Andrew’s Spider-Men on a roof while he’s mourning the death of Aunt May.
The two came to the project with meaningful input about their versions of Spider-Man, influencing what happened, how it played out, and how their characters would realistically support Holland’s Peter.
"They had thoughts, and it was really interesting and helpful to see their thoughts," Sommers said, while McKenna added, "There’s a crucial, moral moment that they help [Holland’s Peter Parker] get through in the climax of the movie."
"So much of that was brought by Tobey and Andrew’s ideas and shaping of what they thought their characters could bring to this story," the screenwriter told The Hollywood Reporter how Tobey and Andrew, 41, helped shape the emotional arc of the youngest Spider-Man.
Additionally, Holland’s upcoming fourth film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is slated to hit theaters next summer on July 31, 2026.
