Sydney Sweeney has taken on a new challenge in her latest project - playing the role of Christy Martin, a pioneering female boxer, in an upcoming biopic.

To prepare for the role, Sweeney underwent a significant physical transformation, adding 30 pounds and going up four jean sizes. "But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong," she revealed in an interview with W Magazine.

The Euphoria actress's co-star, Katy O'Brien, who played opposite her in the ring, shared that she "got punched quite a few times" during filming. However, O'Brien noted that despite Sweeney's added weight, she still had 20 to 30 pounds less than O'Brien, making it a challenge to deliver punches that would look realistic on camera.

Sweeney, however, seemed unfazed, telling O'Brien, "If you break my nose, that's fine." O'Brien, who was about to start production on another project, requested that Sweeney try to keep her nose intact.

Christy Martin is a groundbreaking figure in women's boxing, known for being the first and only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Her story is one of resilience and determination, having survived extreme physical abuse from her ex-husband and manager, Jim Martin.

The film promises to be an inspiring underdog story and personal saga, with director David Michôd praising Sweeney's dedication to the role.

The star has spoken highly of Christy Martin, saying, "Christy will forever be one of the most inspiring in my life… She has faced such tremendous challenges inside and outside the ring, and her story inspired me beyond anything, and I cannot wait for other people to be inspired by her."

Michôd also praised Sweeney's work ethic, saying she "turned up to work every day with her tail wagging, ready to go."
