Henry Golding broke the illusion by explaining why playing James Bond is not as glamorous or desirable as fans might assume.

In the wake of the ongoing public and media speculation over who will replace Daniel Craig, The Gentlemen star expressed admiration for the character but also pointed out the immense cultural pressure that comes with it.

Weighing in on the idea hypothetically, the British actor described the role of 007 "every actor’s kind of nightmare," noting how difficult it would be to live up to the unprecedented benchmark set by Craig.

"But at the same time, [you’re] also wanting to kind of add something new to a franchise," he told People. "Why can’t they bring out more agents or more 00’s?"

A Simple Favor actor suggested that instead of just replacing Bond, the 50-year franchise could expand the universe by introducing other 00-agents, which would allow actors for more creative freedom without the heavy expectations tied to James Bond.

He hinted that he might consider taking on the role if it didn’t come with the sword of intense cultural expectations hanging over his head.

"Maybe I’m just a p***y. I don’t know. But I think I would love it so much more if there wasn’t that overhanging cultural pressure," the Another Simple Favor actor said self-deprecatingly.

Golding, 38, has spilled the unspoken truth as the search for Craig’s successor in the iconic franchise heats up, following the announcement that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next installment.
