The Social Network Part II is finally in development with Aaron Sorkin helming double duties for the long awaited sequel.

Over a decade after the original film starring Andrew Garfield, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Eisenberg, and Justin Timberlake made a boom in 2010, Sorkin is stepping into the director's chair as well as writing the script.

The original Oscar-winning screenwriter has penned a new story he plans to direct for Sony, marking his return to the world of Facebook and its controversial beginnings.

While the first film was based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires, the upcoming sequel draws inspiration from The Facebook Files, a series of investigative articles by Jeff Horwitz for The Wall Street Journal, published in October 2021.

The original David Fincher directed-2010 movie chronicled the rise of Facebook, with Eisenberg lauded for his portrayal of founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The cast also included the The Amazing Spider-Man star as co-founder Eduardo Saverin, Timberlake as Sean Parker, and Armie Hammer in a dual role as the Winklevoss twins, who famously accused Zuckerberg of stealing their idea.

As of now, there’s no official word on whether the original cast, including Eisenberg, Garfield, or Timberlake, will return for The Social Network sequel.
