Hollywood actor reveals why he declined to be a part of Harry Potter universe
Michael Cera has recently broken silence on rejecting Fantastic Beasts role.
The Barbie star shared he was in talks to appear in Fantastic Beasts, the spinoff movie franchise based on JK Rowling's Wizarding World during an appearance on the latest episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast.
"I think I turned one down once. Yeah, I did. It was a Harry Potter one, Fantastic Beasts," said the 37-year-old.
Sharing his reason, Michael told the podcast host that he has no clear idea why he turned it down at the time.
"I think I just declined to engage with it because well, I think it would be like probably a six-year commitment or something," explained the Juno actor.
However, Michael revealed he wanted to "make a conscientious choice" to limit hiss exposure a little bit, or "just try and be a little more in control of it".
"And I felt like doing, especially little kids' movies, I had a big fear of doing things that I would get too famous a little bit," confessed the Superbad actor.
Elsewhere in the interview, Michael opened up that he had no idea which role he declined it in 2016's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
But the Arrested Development actor mentioned that he’d be more likely to commit to a franchise now.
"I think that’s changed a little. I think I’ve outgrown that particular feeling," clarified Michael.
The actor added, "If a franchise came along now and seemed interesting, I don’t think on the grounds of it being a franchise I would leave the office, storm out of the office or anything."
