Prince Harry and Meghan Markle speak out for victims of 'online harm'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are shining a spotlight on an issue close to their hearts.

On June 24, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a powerful statement through their Archewell Foundation in honour of Social Media Harms Remembrance Day — a commemorative day officially recognised by the U.S. Senate in 2024.

The initiative was championed by The Parents’ Network, which includes families who lost children to the devastating effects of online harm.

“Today we mark Social Media Harms Remembrance Day,” the statement began. “This day was designated... to commemorate the lives of young people who have lost their lives due to online harm.”

The message named Carson Bride, Alexander Neville, and Devin Norring, whose families helped lead the charge for the resolution.

Harry and Meghan went on to recognise the “young people who have suffered harm on social media” and praised those fighting to create “safer and more accountable online spaces.”

As part of the day's observance, 245 young lives were honoured in Washington D.C. The Archewell Foundation expressed pride in The Parents’ Network, calling it a powerful community of support.

Back in April, the couple unveiled a striking installation in New York featuring smartphones with lock screen images of children lost to online harassment.

Meghan also posted a heartfelt message urging kindness on social media, writing, “Let’s tell our children that they are enough, and that this life is worth living.”
