Hollywood star Johnny Depp makes rare comment on raising two kids in France
Johnny Depp has recently opened up about raising his kids in France with former partner Vanessa Paradis.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the Pirates of the Caribbean star reflects on kids’ upbringing while talking about his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, whom he and Vanesa welcomed together in 1999.
“I never finished it… She was 10 then, and 25 now,” said the 62-year-old.
Johnny told the outlet, “Years get away from us, don’t they? I’m of the empty-nest syndrome.”
When asked what the Transcendence actor said most about having his two kids around, Johnny stated, “Oh man, my kids growing up in the south of France in their youth?”
Johnny and Vanesa, who split in 2012 after 14 years together, explained why he chose to raise their kids out of the spotlight in an estate near St. Tropez
“I was Papa. I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa," recalled the Dark Shadows actor at the time.
Johnny mentioned, “Then, suddenly, Papa was out the window. I was Dad.”
However, The Lone Ranger actor pointed out, “Papa was awesome, and I’m getting old enough for Papa to possibly come back. Someone’s going to have to call me Papa!”
Reflecting on his fond memories with kids, Johnny added, “Truly, the first time I felt I had a home was the place in the south of France where Vanessa and I raised the kiddies.”
“That’s the only place that ever felt like home,” he concluded.
