'Spider-Man' actor Jack Betts breathes his last at age 96

Jack Betts, the actor known for his roles in classic Westerns, soap operas, and a memorable appearance in Spider-Man, has passed away at the age of 96.

His nephew, Dean Sullivan, confirmed that Betts breathed his last peacefully at his home in Los Osos, California, on Thursday, June 19.

Remembered as a versatile character actor, the late actor’s acting resume is packed with stage, screen, and television appearances.

In addition to briefly portraying Dracula on Broadway, the veteran artist was a familiar face to daytime TV audiences, appearing in numerous soap operas such as One Life to Live, General Hospital, The Doctors, All My Children, Generations, and more.

On the big screen, he earned praise for his role in Gods and Monsters (1998), and in 2002, he took on a minor role in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man.

Betts played Henry Balkan, a member of the Oscorp board who informs Norman Osborn that he’s being replaced, only to be later killed by the Green Goblin during a dramatic Times Square attack.

The close friend of late actress Doris Roberts made his film debut in The Bloody Brood (1959), starring alongside Peter Falk, and went on to star in a string of spaghetti Westerns during the genre’s heyday.

Betts is survived by his nephew Dean, nieces Lynne and Gail, and his sister Joan, who is set to turn 100 in November.
