‘Highlander’ ropes in star cast for much anticipated reboot as release date remains uncertain
Russell Crowe is on board with Henry Cavill in the upcoming reboot of 1986 movie, Highlander.
The Oscar-winner is set to play Juan Sanchez-Villalobos Ramirez, originally portrayed by Sean Connery, meanwhile Cavill will portray protagonist Connor MacLeod originally played by Christopher Lambert.
John Wick director Chad Stahelski will oversee the remake, which has a script written by Michael Finch.
In the original film, the plot features climax of an ancient battle between immortal warriors, unfolding through interwoven past and present-day storylines with Ramirez serving as MacLeod's mentor.
Previously, after steadily gaining wider popularity upon its release, the film spawned several sequels, a TV series, and a strong fanbase.
The upcoming reboot is being backed by Amazon MGM studios and United Artists, which is being run by former Netflix film chief Scott Stuber.
Highlander will be released in theatres although the release date is yet to be announced.
In addition to this, the Gladiator star is next scheduled to play Hermann Göring, one of Hitler’s most trusted allies, in James Vanderbilt’s Nuremberg, which is releasing in November.
He also recently wrapped work on Netflix’s Unabom, plus Cold War thriller Billion Dollar Spy and action thriller Bear Country.
