Amy Poehler weighs in on controversial SNL gigs

Amy Poehler, a veteran of Saturday Night Live, has opened up about the show's history of controversy. 

During a conversation with Will Forte on her Good Hang podcast, Poehler discussed the challenges of being a comedian and the importance of learning from past mistakes.

Poehler referenced the In Memoriam segment from SNL's 50th anniversary episode, which highlighted sketches that have aged poorly. 

The segment featured clips from past sketches that included ethnic stereotypes, sexual harassment, and other problematic content. Poehler noted that the segment was a way for the show to acknowledge its past mistakes and move forward.

Poehler emphasised the importance of making repair and learning from mistakes. "The best thing you can do is make repair, learn from your mistakes [and] do better," she said. "Like, it's all you can do." 

She also acknowledged that she and other comedians have made mistakes in the past, saying "We all played people that we should not have played... I misappropriated, I appropriated, I didn't know, I did know, like it's very real."

Her comments highlight the importance of growth and improvement in the comedy world. As comedians and shows age, it's essential to reflect on past mistakes and strive to do better in the future
