'Squid Game' creator teases exciting news amidst final season
'Squid Game' season 3 will be released o June 27
The creator and writer-director of the hit Netflix series Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has hinted at the possibility of a spinoff series.
In an exclusive interview with People magazine at the season 3 premiere in New York City, Hwang said, "I cannot just tell right now when and how it's going to happen. But there is a chance."
The third and final season of Squid Game is set to premiere on June 27, picking up where the previous season left off. The story follows Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), also known as Player 456, as he navigates the aftermath of the players' ill-fated rebellion against the game's organisers.
The official season 3 synopsis reveals that Gi-hun is driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game.
Gi-hun persists in his goal to put an end to the game, while the surviving players face graver consequences with each round.
Netflix dropped an official trailer for the final season during their live Tudum 2025 event in May, showcasing the surviving players forced to finish out the Squid Game.
The trailer ends with Gi-hun being escorted to the control room to confront The Front Man once again, with the haunting question: "Player 456, do you still have faith in people?"
