Damson Idris recently opened up about a very unexpected moment with Brad Pitt while filming their new Formula 1 movie. The 33-year-old actor plays rookie driver Joshua Pearace, who looks up to Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, in the racing drama.
During his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on June 18, Idris shared the story of one tense scene where he accidentally spit on his famous co-star.
“It’s so funny working with Brad. He’s such a beautiful human being, such a giving actor,” Idris began. “And we once did a scene where I had to scream in his face, and it was like the biggest scene for me. I was so nervous.”
He went on to explain what happened next.
“In between the takes, I spat in Brad Pitt’s face,” Idris admitted, laughing.
“It was an accident. It was a rageful scene,” he said, before recalling how he actually watched the spit travel to Pitt’s face. Pitt was shocked, but kept going without missing a beat.
Idris added, “And then he kept going, and in my head I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh. I just spat on Brad Pitt’s face.’ I was like, ‘I’m going to lose my job now.’ And I watched the spit the whole take, it was just there dribbling down.”
Idris also kept things light by joking around about Pitt’s long-standing career.
After Colbert referred to Pitt as “this really promising, up-and-coming new guy named Brad Pitt,” Idris replied, “He is good. He has a really bright future, that guy,” and then added playfully, “I hope he sticks around.”
