The 'Deadpool' star made a thinly veiled swipe at his wife Blake Lively's 'It Ends With Us' legal affairs
Ryan Reynolds continues to bring his trademark humour to his wife Blake Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni.
During a panel at Stagwell’s Sport Beach in France from June 16 to June 19, the Deadpool star was about to toss a water bottle to an audience member when he paused.
“I’m not throwing this,” Reynolds, 48, quipped, per Page Six. “I’ve been around lawyers. You can walk up here and grab it.”
The offhand comment quickly sparked speculation that Reynolds was referencing Lively’s ongoing legal battle with Baldoni.
Reynolds, who was at the festival to promote his and Rob McElhenney’s ownership of Wrexham AFC, didn’t elaborate further. But the timing of the joke raised eyebrows, especially since Baldoni just scored a legal win in the case.
On June 17, a judge ruled that Baldoni could request messages between Lively and Taylor Swift related to the controversial film It Ends With Us. While Swift was initially subpoenaed in Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit, the court ruled that relevant messages between her and Lively could still be disclosed.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Marvel star has cracked a joke about the legal battle. Back in February, when Reynolds and Lively attended the SNL50 special together, he seemingly referenced the drama when it was at its peak.
During a bit, Tina Fey asked Reynolds, “How’s it going,” to which he nervously responded, “Great, why? What have you heard?”
