Leighton Meester weighed in on her new role in The Buccaneers and acknowledged the similarities it has with her Gossip Girl character.

The That’s My Boy star made her debut as Nell in the period drama, which premiered its season two episode one on June 18.

Throughout the first episode the viewers came to learn that Nell is Nan St. George's (Kristine Frøseth) real mother.

Meester, who has starred in hit TV shows like the Gossip Girl and Single Parents, revealed how playing Nell was an opportunity to explore a unique new character.

"I probably was more interested in how different the character was and how I would be able to explore that and sort of unpack [it all]," she told the People Magazine.

However, she also drew parallels between her new and old characters, especially her Gossip Girl role.

The Monto Carlo actress said that she picked up on "some of the dynamics, particularly the friendships and romances and all that," noting that it's all "very juicy" much like what played out on the hit CW series.

"I think it’s a nice marriage of both sorts of worlds," Meester added.

The historical drama series follows Nan (Frøseth) and her group of friends as they leave behind New York City and venture into the stiff London society.

Season one ended with Nan marrying Theo, Duke of Tintagel (Guy Rummers) even after it was revealed that she is illegitimate and born from one of her father’s affairs.

In the finale’s last scene, Colonel St. George (Adam James), Nan's father, told his wife and the woman who raised Nan, Patti (Christina Hendricks), that Nan's birth mother was at the wedding.

The new episodes of The Buccaneers season 2 debut every Wednesday on Apple TV+.
