Rachel Brosnahan isn’t holding back when it comes to how some actors handle their roles in superhero films. As she gears up for her highly anticipated debut as Lois Lane in Superman, set to hit theaters July 11, the Emmy-nominated actress is making it clear where she stands.

In a recent conversation with Amanda Seyfried for Interview Magazine, Brosnahan shared her thoughts on actors who criticize their superhero projects.

“I don’t know why people say, ‘Yes’ only to then turn around and complain about it,” she said.

“Look, I don’t want to s— on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

Seyfried had also weighed in during their discussion, noting that “you can feel it when people are doing it with passion and grace and curiosity.” That led to Brosnahan’s pointed remarks, which appeared to indirectly reference recent comments from Dakota Johnson.

Earlier this year, Johnson opened up about her experience filming Madame Web, a Marvel spinoff that failed to impress critics or audiences.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, she reflected on the challenges of working on a large studio film.

“It wasn’t my fault. There’s this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee,” Johnson said. “Or made by people who don’t have a creative bone in their body. And it’s really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way.”

Johnson continued, “And I think unfortunately with Madame Web, it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.”

While Brosnahan didn’t name names, her message is clear: take pride in the work you choose to do, especially in a genre that continues to evolve and resonate with global audiences.
