Glen Powell has been tapped by studio Amazon MGM Studios for movie by Ron Howards
Glen Powell is staying firmly in the Hollywood spotlight, as he signs on to lead a new untitled firefighter film from director Ron Howard. The upcoming movie, which has been picked up by Amazon MGM Studios, centers around two childhood friends who are now seasoned firefighters.
As they battle a series of dangerous blazes across Texas, the pair must also confront the complexities of their bond.
The film’s script is being written by Christina Hodson, who has previously penned action hits like Bumblebee, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, and The Flash.
She will also serve as executive producer on the project. Producing duties will be shared by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Jeb Brody for Imagine Entertainment, along with Powell and Dan Cohen under the Barnstorm banner.
Powell has been on a roll recently.
He starred in Twisters, one of Universal’s major hits, and took on multiple roles in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man on Netflix, where he not only starred but also co-wrote and produced.
His upcoming slate includes the remake of The Running Man directed by Edgar Wright for Paramount, and the A24 thriller Huntington, which recently finished filming. He’s also currently working on J.J. Abrams’ next feature for Warner Bros. and will headline the Hulu series Chad Powers.
Earlier this year, it was also reported that Universal secured another pitch called The Natural Order, which has Barry Jenkins in talks to direct Powell in the lead. In addition, Powell is teaming up with Judd Apatow for a comedy at Universal centered around a country music star.
This new firefighter drama marks a return to familiar territory for Howard, who previously directed the 1991 classic Backdraft, another story about the courage and danger firefighters face on the job.
The project was first reported by TheInSneider.
