James Gunn explains why ‘Batman’ is the real challenge in DC reboot
James Gunn discussed why Batman is the toughest character to tackle in the new DC universe.
DC Universe, is a fictional universe that serves as the setting for stories featuring characters of DC Comics, including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
Since taking the charge of the platform in 2023, Gunn immediately began working on the three iconic superheroes.
While Superman is about to come to big screen on July 11, the other two pieces are still in flux.
In conversation with the Rolling Stone, Gunn revealed the reason behind the delay.
"Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally," he said.
"And it’s not, I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman."
Last Week, he announced that the Wonder Woman movie is currently being written and he feels like its progressing more smoothly than Batman production.
"Wonder Woman I think is actually easier for me, because there haven’t been so many infinite portrayals of Wonder Woman definitely not in movies, but really anywhere that there have been of Batman," he added.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director went on to explain that Batman's story has been told in all the different angles and "half the comics that have come out of DC over the past 30 years have Batman in them."
He added that since the character is one of the most famous and popular superhero in the world "having so much of him out there can also make him boring. So how do you create that property that’s fun to watch?"
Gunn continued saying that the character needs to have reason to exist in the universe and that they just can’t make a film on him "because Batman’s the biggest character in all of Warner Bros,' which he is. But because there’s a need for him in the DCU."
As for now Robert Pattinson’s Batman sequel is The Batman Part II (not a part of DCU) , is set to release in 2027.
