Buzz Lightyear wakes up to a whole new kind of competition in 'Toy Story 5' sneak peek
Toy Story 5 first look offered a glimpse of the unexpected rival of Buzz Lightyear and other toys as new threat emerged to take Bonnie’s attention away from them.
Although the new film is a year away from its premiere, Pixar treated the attendees of Annecy International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France with the first footage of the popular animated series’ upcoming installment.
On Friday, June 13, Pete Docter, Pixar's chief creative officer, joined the event to tease the new adventures of Buzz and Woody, as well as other upcoming animated projects.
Meanwhile, festivalgoers got to see the concept art from Toy Story’s latest sequel, which saw Buzz Lightyear wake up on a beach surrounded by other Buzz toys, all of whom washed ashore from a fallen shipping container and begin to reclaim their Star Command identity.
In addition to Docter confirming the return of Joan Cusack as the voice of Jessie, the iconic cowgirl doll first appeared in Toy Story 2, he also introduced a new antagonist: Lily Pad, a frog-themed tech tablet that competes with the toys for Bonnie’s attention.
Lily represents modern digital distractions, challenging the traditional toy dynamic as she wants Bonnie to "move on" from her toys.
Written and directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 is set to release on June 19, 2026, marking the Pixar veteran’s directorial debut in the franchise.
