Rene Zellweger hopes for more ‘Bridget Jones’ movie despite fourth film was seen as final instalment
Rene Zellweger is ready to play more of her iconic character Bridget Jones.
Zellweger first played the character in 2001's Bridget Jones' Diary and starred in sequels Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones’s Baby and Mad About the Boy.
Discussing the beloved comedy with Mad About the Boy director Michael Morris on The Hollywood Reporter, the actress explained whether there have been conversations with Bridget Jones creator Helen Fielding for furthering the character's story.
"My understanding was that this was kind of it, but I keep my fingers crossed that she might want to share some more of her own experiences through the world of Bridget," Zellweger shared.
The director highlighted how the last instalment expanded the rom-com with characters like Chiwetel Ejiofor's Scott Walliker, a teacher at Bridget's children's school, and Leo Woodall, Roxster McDuff, Bridget's younger new love interest.
"We’ve got all these fantastic people and Helen’s got her life, her kids are going to college. Let’s hope for more chapters," Morris continued.
Bridget Jones follows the story of a self-deprecating thirty something, navigating the chaos of her modern life while obsessing over her weight, career, and love life.
The latest instalment Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy was released on 13 February, 2025.
