Keira Knightley reflects on her acting career before ‘Pride & Prejudice’
Keira Knightley opens up about her confusing time in her acting career
Keira Knightley has recently reflected on her career before Pride & Prejudice.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, the Atonement actress opened up about her “confusing” time when she was honoured with an Oscar nomination for one movie, and slammed as a “terrible actress” for another.
“It was pretty big for my career. If people will come up to me, it’ll be about that one,” she told the outlet while giving reference to Jane Austen’s movie adaptation.
Keira mentioned, “Pirates of the Caribbean had already come out, but I think in the public consciousness, I was seen as a terrible actress.”
After Pride & Prejudice movie, the May December actress remembered there was a sudden shift in public opinion about her acting abilities.
“I had this phenomenally big success with Pirates. And I think this was the first one that was a phenomenally big success, but was also critically acclaimed,” explained the 40-year-old.
Keira continued, “I remember it coming out maybe the same year, maybe around the same time as Pirates 2.”
“And I got the worst reviews ever for that, and then also being nominated for an Oscar at the same time—it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing,” pointed out the Thor star.
However, Keira shared that Pride & Prejudice was the first time that it has been positive and she even earned her Best Actress Academy Award nomination, per Variety.
Meanwhile, Jane Austen’s movie adaptation, which was directed by Joe Wright, was re-released in theatres to mark the movie’s 20th anniversary in April.
