Jason Issacs weighs in on Johnny Flynn playing Lucius Malfoy in upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ series
Jason Issacs, who originally portrayed Lucius Malfoy in the film series, broke his silence on the new casting for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series.
The White Lotus star, congratulated actor/musician Johnny Flynn on securing the iconic role of arrogant and cunning father of Draco Malfoy, nemesis of Harry Potter.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), The Patriot actor gushed over Flynn and expressed his excitement of seeing him taking over the role.
Issacs wrote, "A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…#HarryPotter #JohnnyFlynn #KillTheElfEarly."
Previously, the 62-year-old actor on The Hollywood Reporter’s Award Chatter podcast revealed that he was relishing his final moments as the only on-screen Lucius Malfoy.
He mentioned that he planned to "milk" the attention and "savour every other applause" until someone new took his place.
In addition to Flynn, Lox Pratt is casted as Draco Malfoy. Meanwhile, Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton will play the beloved trio, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively.
The streaming platform, HBO, is yet to announce a premiere date for the series. The TV series is expected to focus on one book per season.
