'Incredibles 3' is in works with new director
Who takes the reins from popular franchise creator Brad Bird to helm upcoming 'Incredibles 3'
The Incredibles franchise might get even more incredible as Pixar has made some exciting changes behind the scenes.
It has been reported that the third instalment of the beloved superhero saga will be directed by Elemental filmmaker Peter Sohn, marking a major shift for the franchise, which was previously helmed by animation legend Brad Bird.
Bird, who wrote and directed The Incredibles (2004) and Incredibles 2 (2018), helped turn the franchise into a global phenomenon.
The two films bagged over $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office and won critical acclaim, with the first film earning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
While Bird is returning to write the screenplay for the third film, he won’t be directing this time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, his current commitment to Skydance’s sci-fi adventure Ray Gunn, which is in pre-production, could be the reason for the shake-up in directorial duties.
The Incredibles revolved around Bob and Helen Parr, a married couple of former superheroes, voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, trying to live a quiet suburban life with their three kids after being forced into hiding by a government mandate banning superpowers.
The original film premiered in 2004 and quickly became a cultural milestone. Its long-awaited sequel arrived 14 years later in 2018 and raked in a massive $1.24 billion globally.
The following year, Disney thrilled the fans by announcing The Incredibles 3 at the D23 Expo in August 2024.
