The Wicked part two, Wicked: For Good had a successful launch with its first teaser trailer release.
Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Glinda), took the world by storm on June 4th with the highly anticipated first look into the second part of the film.
According the Universal, the studio behind the Broadway adaptation, has reported the first look of part two was viewed 113 million times in its first 24 hours. That is 38 million times more than the for the first film which had 75 million views over the same timeframe.
It is to be noted that theses massive numbers are similar to Greta Gerwig’s sensation Barbie and are higher than recent blockbusters like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Mufasa: The Lion King and Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, according to the studio.
The two and half minute trailer dropped snippet on upcoming musical hits, No Good Deed and For Good.
The footage also featured Glinda and Fiyero’s (Jonathan Bailey) wedding and the iconic shot of Dorothy, the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion presenting themselves in front of the wonderful wizard.
The story is set before, during and after the events of Wizard of Oz.
After Elphaba and Glinda become best friends in the first film, their relationship is put to the test as they part ways and the Wicked Witch of the West is declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard.
Wicked: For Good is slated for release on November 22.
