Sarah Snook credits team behind her one-woman play as she wins first Tony
The 'Succession' star won her first-ever Tony Award for her Broadway run of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'
Sarah Snook just added her first Tony Award to her trophy shelf, and she’s giving credit where it’s due.
At Sunday night’s 78th Annual Tony Awards, the Succession star took home Best Leading Actress in a Play for The Picture of Dorian Gray, a one-woman show where she plays over two dozen characters.
Accepting the award onstage at Radio City Music Hall on June 9, Snook, 37, turned the spotlight on the many people who helped bring the ambitious production to life.
“[The Picture of Dorian Gray] is billed as a one-person show, and I don't feel alone any night that I do this show,” she said. “There are so many people on stage making it work and behind the stage making it work.”
Snook went on to thank director and playwright Kipp Williams, calling him “incredible.” She also gave a heartfelt shout-out to her husband Dave Lawson for “holding the fort down” and taking care of their two-year-old daughter during the show’s run.
The production, developed by the Sydney Theatre Company, premiered in Australia in 2020 before heading to London — where Snook won an Olivier Award — and finally landing on Broadway this spring. Its limited run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket ends June 15.
Snook was nominated alongside Laura Donnelly, Mia Farrow, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Sadie Sink in the Best Actress category.
