Big Little Lies creator David E. Kelley shared a positive update on the arrival of season 3 amid the growing buzz.
Following repeated expressions of interest from the show’s all-star cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley, Kelley, who also serves as executive producer, offered an inside scoop about Big Little Lies Season 3 production.
"We’re hoping it happens," he teased during a recent interview with People. "We had a great time doing the first two seasons, and we all want to do it again. I’m hopeful it’ll happen."
Kelley, who recently accepted the Visionary Award at the Gotham TV Awards, have only fueled the anticipation about a potential return, which would come more than six years after the conclusion of sophomore installment.
Despite the lead actresses openly expressing interest in reprising their roles, none are currently "under contract."
With Kravitz admitting she’s "waiting by the phone" for updates, Kelley said it’s "pretty nice to hear" the cast is eager to return.
As the excitement grew more, the creator toned it down by saying that the project under consideration is still "premature."
"We haven’t really all gotten together to brainstorm yet, but again, it’s a great stable of talent. Once we do [get together], I think we have a good shot of figuring it out," Kelley explained.
Talk of a third season picked up steam after Kidman casually revealed in late 2023 that HBO was working on a continuation of the moody, Monterey-set drama, originally based on Liane Moriarty’s best-selling novel.
