Tom Cruise almost got killed while filming 'Mission: Impossible 8'?
Tom Cruise rejects idea of using CGI in his films
Tom Cruise's passion of doing all his stunts by himself could nearly cost him his life.
In the new Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning film, the 62-year-old has done some really death defying stunts like hanging on a bi-plane and doing underwater sequences.
However, the makers could use CGI (Computer-generated Imagery) for some scenes, but Tom was against it and wanted to do all the stunts without any artificial effects.
Cruise’s decision was quite bold and dangerous, but it also got him 'trapped' for real during the shoot of an underwater scene in the eighth sequel.
The film contains a shot where Ethan Hunt dives into the ruins of a sunken Sevastopol submarine to retrieve the source code of the Entity.
The scene results in a tense challenge for survival as the submarine begins to roll underwater after the torpedoes are crashed.
According to Eastwood, it has been easier if CGI torpedoes were used in the film, but Tom persisted to do it for real just because he did not wanted his audience to feel 'disconnected'.
Eastwood revealed while speaking on The Empire Film Podcast that the Top Gun: Maverick actor got stuck during the filming of the scene. However it wasn’t bad.
"It wasn't bad, because Tom can hold his breath for a long time. Before he had even finished being trapped, I was already pulling the thing off him."
Mission: Impossible 8 reunited Cruise along with Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames.
