Prince William has teamed up with legendary broadcaster Sir David Attenborough for a powerful conversation ahead of the release of Sir David’s latest documentary diving deep into the wonders and warnings of the ocean.
The discussion, filmed at London’s Royal Festival Hall in early May, was shared by Kensington Palace across social media this week to mark the upcoming global premiere of the documentary on Sunday, which also happens to be World Oceans Day.
In the thoughtful exchange, the Prince of Wales and the 99-year-old naturalist reflected on Sir David’s decades long journey exploring Earth’s marine life, touching on the beauty of the seas, the threats they face, and the urgent need to protect them for future generations.
The duo’s conversation forms part of a broader effort to amplify awareness around marine conservation, a key pillar of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize through its "Revive Our Oceans" category.
Since the Earthshot Prize’s launch in 2021, finalists in this category have delivered real-world impact.
Their efforts have protected and restored more than 20,000 square kilometres of vital marine habitat and helped save, reduce, or recycle 2.5 million tonnes of water proof that targeted innovation can drive meaningful change.
To mark Sir David’s 99th birthday, the Prince of Wales shared a warm tribute on social media, posting a series of photographs from their recent meeting, along with a touching throwback family snap from 2020.
