Domhnall Gleeson addresses comparison between The Office, The Paper
Domnhall Gleeson opens up about if his character is similar to Steve Carell’s Michael Scott
Domhnall Gleeson reacted to the comparison between The Office and The Paper characters.
The Harry Potter star will be playing Ned, the head of the failing Midwestern newspaper and the Truth Teller, in the upcoming mockumentary series, The Paper.
At the AMC Lincoln Square, New York screening of Echo Valley, Gleeson in conversation with the People Magazine, addressed the comparison between his character and Steve Carell's The Office character, Michael Scott.
"I don't think my characters like Michael Scott at all," he said. "I think if you're trying to compete with what Steve did or with what Ricky Gervais (star of original UK The Office series) did, I think it would be a massive mistake."
While praising both formal leads, he went on to talk about his character in the new series, saying, "They are geniuses who are incredible in loads of different ways. We made a whole new character."
"It's a whole new sort of set up, but I hope people will find a reason to love him as well, just in a different way than they did the guys before," he explained.
The Paper, The Office long-awaited spin-off series, is slated for release on September 18.
