Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman team up amid major controversies
The 'Deadpool and Wolverine' co-stars are setting sail on a new adventure together
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are setting sail on a new venture even as their personal lives make waves.
The Deadpool & Wolverine co-stars have joined forces to buy the BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team, an Australian professional sailing club, according to a press release shared this week.
“We’re incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure,” Reynolds said in a joint statement.
Their investment comes as both stars navigate headline-making controversies. Jackman’s ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, officially filed for divorce in late May after 27 years of marriage and months of cheating rumours and an apparent "betrayal." The 56-year-old is now romantically linked to Broadway star Sutton Foster, with whom he’s reportedly moved in.
Meanwhile, Reynolds, 48, is facing legal drama of his own. His wife, Blake Lively, is currently embroiled in a dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni over on-set sexual harassment.
Despite the noise, both stars appear focused on building something new with SailGP. The league features 12 national teams racing identical 50-foot catamarans at high speeds. The Flying Roos, led by Olympic gold medalist Tom Slingsby, will debut under new ownership at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix from June 7-8.
“They bring unmatched star power... and a sharp sense of humour,” Slingsby said.
