Jon M. Chu talks about the introduction of the iconic character Dorothy Gale in ‘Wicked: For Good’
Jon M. Chu opened up about what to expect from the upcoming sequel of the Oscar nominated film, Wicked.
Wicked: For Good, the second part of Broadway Musical adaptation, will be releasing soon on November 21.
The Crazy Rich Asians director, in conversation with the Vanity Fair, talked about the Yellow Brick Road which showed Dorothy and her pals walked down its path in the newly released trailer.
"That intersection is the place that we were first introduced into Oz. We tread lightly, but try to make more sense of how it impacts our girls and our characters than maybe the show does," he said.
Dorothy’s role is pivotal for Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who fakes her death (in the musical) after the protagonist throws a bucket of water on the Wicked Witch.
However, he assured that Dorothy's inclusion in the story won’t take the spotlight from Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande). "We’re delicate," he added.
Previously, in conversation with Cinema Blend, the director hinted at the depth of connection between For Good and Oz storyline saying that, "does The Wizard of Oz and our movie intersect in movie two more than ever? 100%."
In addition to Erivo and Grande, the film also includes Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater and Jeff Goldblum. The star, who will play Dorothy in the film, is yet to be announced.
