Olivia Wilde is known for directing movies that typically explore feminist themes
Olivia Wilde has recently been announced as a recipient of Taormina Film Festival’s Creativity Award at the 71st edition of the event
The actor, producer and director will be honoured for her phenomenal contribution to the entertainment industry at the prestigious event, which will run June 10-14 in the hilltop Sicilian town.
In a press statement, Taormina Artistic Director, Tiziana Rocca, said, “We are honoured to welcome Olivia to the 71st edition of the Taormina Film Festival.”
“Olivia represents a shining example of female creative power, combining elegance, intelligence and determination. Her presence will greatly enrich this year’s program and offer the audience a unique opportunity to engage with one of the key figures in contemporary cinema,” added Tiziana.
For the unversed, Olivia began her career as an assistant casting director and later moved into acting for hit series including The O.C. and House.
The actress made her directing debut with 2019’s Booksmart, and then she directed the 2022’s Don’t Worry Darling.
It is pertinent to mention that Olivia has one acting project in the pipeline titled I Want Your Sex which is directed by Gregg Araki and fellow stars include Cooper Hoffman and popstar Charli XCX.
However, as a director, Olivia is going to direct the comedy The Invite, from a screenplay by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. She also stars alongside Seth Rogen, Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz.
Another project which she will direct titled Avengelyne, a feature adaptation of the 1990s comic book character for Warner Bros and Universal’s Christmas comedy Naughty, both of which will be produced by Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley’s LuckyChap.
Besides Olivia, other star list of attendees and honorees in Taormina include Martin Scorsese, Michael Douglas, Catherine Deneuve and Helen Hunt.
Meanwhile, the international jury will be led by Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, with panel support from British actor Rupert Everett, costume designer Sandy Powell and others.
