Dolly Parton recently gushed over Beyoncé’s musical talent following her powerful remake of Jolene on the recent album Cowboy Carter.
The 79-year-old singer, who is widely acclaimed as a country music icon, reacted to the lyrical changes in the 2024 version.
During an exclusive conversation with People, Parton said, “I’m a huge fan of hers – I mean, who’s not? Everybody loves her. I think she’s a magnificent artist, beautiful and the dancing in addition to the singing.”
Additionally, the 9 to 5 hitmaker praised Cowboy Carter, calling it a “really, really good album,” which also features two cameos from the Country Music Hall of Famer herself.
Later in the interview, the There Was Jesus singer expressed pride in Beyoncé’s bold new interpretation.
Speaking to the outlet, Parton continued, “I was just honored that she, of course, did a completely different take on ‘Jolene’ than than my version of it. Hers was more like, ‘Well, you're not getting him, you're not taking him, you're going to go through me to get him.’ Mine was more like, ‘Please don't take him!’ So I loved her interpretation.
Notably, Parton’s 1973 original included the line, “I’m beggin’ of you, please don’t take my man.”
In contrast, the Single Ladies hitmaker’s remake declares, “I’m warning you, don’t come for my man”.
For the unversed, Beyoncé is currently on her Cowboy Carter Tour, which is scheduled to conclude on July 26 in Paradise, Nev.
