Sydney Sweeney opens up about the weight of industry expectations
Sydney Sweeney is finally offering an inside glimpse into the struggles she faces in the film industry.
During an exclusive interview with The Times, the White Lotus star, who rose to fame after portraying the role of Cassie in Euphoria, explained why continuously meeting people's expectations has been crucial for her in the industry.
Reflecting on the intense experience of playing the ground-breaking role in the iconic US drama, Sweeney recalled how it took a toll on her career.
She told the outlet, “I have to prove myself as a young woman, as an actor, as a businessperson — all of it.”
In addition, the 27-year-old didn’t hesitate to share unfiltered thoughts on her casting experience as she further went on to add, “I see it all the time where they don’t think I am right for [a role] because they watched Cassie in Euphoria. Especially because Cassie was such a sexualised character — that puts a wall up for people,” she said. “I feel like I’m constantly having to be like, no, no, I’m an actor, I’m supposed to be different characters.”
On professional front, Sydney Sweeney is gearing up for a series of projects, including a Gundam film.
