Oscar nominated screenwriter Celine Song has come up with a new romantic comedy film starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.

The much-anticipated rom-com follows the story of a young New York based matchmaker, who’s business gets complicated after she gets stuck in choosing between the perfect match and her imperfect ex-boyfriend.

Materialists focus on the concept of modern love and its complications.

During a recent promotional interview with Fandango, Johnson spoke about the authenticity of the movie, while also explaining that she does not feel that romantic comedy films are ‘silly’.

“It’s not a silly genre, and I think that the term romantic comedy or rom-com has been made less important or less serious, but it’s for everyone.”

“Everyone can relate to wanting love or being loved or losing love or dreaming or lacking, whatever it is. And it just makes you feel nice.”

According to her, movies belonging to this genre resonates with people as they focus on human stories.

Song’s directorial Materialists is backed by A24 and is set to release in cinemas on June 13.
