Why Kate Winslet never let daughter Mia Threapleton watch ‘Titanic’ in full?

Mia Threapleton may be stepping into the spotlight with her own acting career, but she’s revealing a surprising detail about growing up with her famous mother, Kate Winslet, and her famous movie, Titanic.

In a recent interview with Defined magazine, the 24-year-old actress shared that she has never watched Titanic all the way through — the film that turned Winslet into a household name alongside Leonardo DiCaprio back in 1997.

“I remember the car scene happening and these hands appeared from behind my head and covered up my eyes,” Threapleton recalled. 

The moment she’s referencing is one of the film’s most iconic — and intimate — scenes, in which her mother and DiCaprio’s characters share a passionate moment in the backseat of a car aboard the doomed RMS Titanic. 

“I was like, ‘I can still hear everything!’” she added.

Threapleton, who stars in Wes Anderson’s new movie The Phoenician Scheme, said she never had a full sit-down to watch the film. 

“I don’t remember why it was on,” she said. “My mother would never optionally put that film on. She does not like watching herself. And I totally understand why.”

Kate Winslet, 49, shares Mia with her ex-husband Jim Threapleton, whom she divorced in 2001. She also has a 21-year-old son, Joe Alfie Mendes, with ex-husband Sam Mendes, and an 11-year-old son, Bear, with her current husband Edward Abel Smith.

While Titanic remains one of the most beloved films in cinema history, for Threapleton, it’s just another part of her childhood — one she still hasn’t fully explored.
